ALUM BAY (ISLE OF WIGHT)

Summary: Although fossils are not the main attraction, the combination of fascinating geology and stunning views, make this a worthy destination for individuals and families. It's worth spending a few hours at Alum Bay and experiencing the chartered boat trip to view the Needles and lighthouse.

BOULDNOR (ISLE OF WIGHT)

Summary: The fossils between Bouldnor and Hampstead range from very large sections of tree trunks to tiny gastropods and can be found all year round, although in varying volume depending of the prevailing conditions. The coastline has yielded a range of well preserved mammal remains over the years.

Fossils: Bivalves and gastropods in particular.

HANOVER POINT (ISLE OF WIGHT)

EOCENE

Summary: This is the most productive region in Europe for discovering dinosaurs, and a wide range of fossil material has been found. Dinosaur footprints are the most common fossils, and can be found loose on the beach as sandstone moulds, particularly at the base of the cliff.
