Discovering Fossils

We provide the information as a resource for any individual or groups interested in the study of paleontology.  We make every effort to ensure the content and descriptions are correct, although there may be instances where information is no longer applicable.  You should use your own knowledge and experience to base your decision to visit any location featured on the site.

Fossil hunting can be a dangerous activity

Fossil hunting can be a dangerous activity, especially around cliffs and quarries.  When visiting these locations please ensure you have sought the necessary permissions to look for fossils.  You should also ensure you use the necessary protective clothing, which might include a hard hat, high visibility jackets, eye protection and more.  Neither Lu, Robert or myself are responsible for your safety.

Joining us on a trip

There may be occasions where we invite you or your colleagues to join us on a trip.  We want everyone to have a great day, however there are serious safety risks in many of these locations and we must insist you have read and agree with the following statements.  This is necessary to protect you, your colleagues and Lu and myself from liability in the event of an accident.

Before participating you accept complete responsibility for the safety of yourself and anyone who accompanies you.

Risks to consider around British fossil sites include:

- Cliff faces are prone to collapse

- Landslips may occur in quarries and around cliffs

- Deep mud/water/swamps are common everywhere

- Falling debris may occur at the base of cliffs or quarry faces

- Quarry machinery/equipment

- Slippery surfaces

- Rocks may splinter when hammered

- and other local dangers.

Neither 'discoveringfossils.co.uk', Roy, Luci, Robert or the landowners, quarry operators or any other associated organisation will be responsible for your safety, neither can we provide insurance protection in the event of an accident.  We may make recommendations for your safety based on our previous experience of the location, in which case these must be followed.  We do have a limited supply of tools and protective clothing, including hard hats which may be borrowed on request prior to attending.  On the day we may request you sign a form to confirm you have read and agree with all of the above points.

Use of Website materials

The use of any materials on the website is permitted only at our discretion.  Before downloading or publishing any pictures or text, you must request permission by emailing us.

Discovering Fossils provides a free resource to inform you about this fascinating subject and does not accept any liability for decisions made using this information.
